The collection consists of press clippings (15 folders) from Finch's early years in British theatre and films and some early Australian clippings. He appeared in such shows as Father Brown, Passages Home, Elephant Walk and Romeo and Juliet. There are scripts from Radio Army and the ABC between 1945 and 1947. Also included are two play scripts: Moliere's "Le malade imaginaire" in which Finch was appearing when first seen by Sir Laurence Olivier, and "The reluctant wolf" by Fred Parsons and A. Macdonald. There is also a collection of Finch's poetry, some of which was written during the war years. One folder contains letters, mostly of a congratulatory nature, from such notable personalities as Olivier, Alec Guiness, Peggy Ashcroft, Edith Evans and Noel Coward, and letters to his first wife Tamara Finch.

Actor Peter Finch was born in Britain and came to Australia at the age of nine. He worked at a variety of occupations such as newspaper copy boy, hawker and artist's model before he began his theatrical career in the early years of Australian radio. Before the second world war, he appeared in several Australian films until Lawrence Olivier encouraged him to try the British theatre. He left Australia for London in 1949 where he had many stage and film successes until his death in 1977. ...
